Champions One-Day Cricket Cup Begins

FAISALABAD: The UMT Markhors will face off against the Panthers in the opening match of the Champions One-Day Cup at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad on Thursday afternoon.

The match starts at 3 pm, with live coverage on national sports channels and streaming platforms Tamasha, Tapmad, and myco. In North America, it will be broadcast on Willow TV.

Mohammad Rizwan will lead the UMT Markhors, with Misbah-ul-Haq as mentor, while Shadab Khan captains the Panthers, with Saqlain Mushtaq as mentor. The tournament, which has a prize pool of PKR49 million, will run until 29 September, with the winning team receiving PKR30 million and the runner-up PKR15 million.

On Friday, Mohammad Haris’ Allied Bank Stallions will take on Shaheen Shah Afridi’s Nurpur Lions, and on Saturday, Saud Shakeel’s Dolphins will play the Panthers.

The tournament serves as a platform for players to impress ahead of next year’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025. White-ball head coach Gary Kirsten will oversee the competition, with red-ball coach Jason Gillespie joining later. The top four teams will advance to the playoffs, with the final set for 29 September.
