ISLAMABAD: The cyclonic storm “Shakti” has weakened but continues to pose a risk of light rain and rough sea conditions for the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan, including Gwadar, the gateway of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), according to an advisory issued Monday by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The PMD’s Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre reported that the severe cyclonic storm has weakened into a cyclonic storm and was centered approximately 910 kilometers southwest of Karachi as of 1100 PST (0600 GMT) on Oct. 6, 2025.

Impact on Coastal Infrastructure and Ports

The weather system is currently projected to move east-southeastward and is expected to further weaken into a depression within the next 24 hours. However, its influence will be felt along the coastline:

Isolated light rain is likely to occur today in the coastal areas of both Sindh and Balochistan. This forecast includes Gwadar and other districts involved in major CPEC development projects.

Sea conditions are expected to remain high to very rough in the Northwest and West-Central Arabian Sea for the next 24 hours. Squally winds near the Sindh coast are forecast to reach 70-90 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 90 km/h.

Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the deep sea until at least October 7, when conditions are expected to improve.
