ISLAMABAD: The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad has provided Rs. 4 million in scholarships to the University of Peshawar under the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Programme, officials said on Thursday. The funds were formally handed over to the China Study Centre (CSC) at the University of Peshawar on last November 4.

Representing the university at the ceremony, Director China Study Centre Dr. Noor Sanauddin received the cheque who described the support as a reflection of the strong and enduring partnership between Pakistan and China. “This scholarship is a testament to the strong ties between Pakistan and China, and the Chinese Embassy’s commitment to supporting education and cultural exchange,” he said.

Launched in 2020, the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Programme has so far assisted hundreds of University of Peshawar students in areas related to Chinese language learning, culture and academic research. According to the CSC, the programme encourages students through a merit- and need-based selection process overseen by the centre.

Dr. Sanauddin noted that the support continues to strengthen academic cooperation and people-to-people relations. “The University of Peshawar appreciates the Chinese Embassy’s continued support and commitment,” he said in the statement, adding that the scholarship is expected to contribute to human-capital development and further cement Pakistan–China ties.
