University of Gwadar Launches New Girls’ Hostel to Strengthen Safe Access to Higher Education

CT Report

GWADAR: The University of Gwadar (UG) has inaugurated a dedicated girls’ hostel, marking a major step toward improving living facilities and ensuring a secure environment for female students pursuing higher education in the region. The facility was opened on Tuesday by Member of Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch.

The project aligns with the directives of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who had approved the hostel’s allocation to address the rising need for safe, reliable accommodation for women enrolled at UG. The decision was originally announced during a large community gathering—or “mega jirga”—held on June 18, 2025, at the Pak-China Vocational & Technical Institute.

Students and local community representatives had emphasized the importance of improving housing options for young women, many of whom travel from distant districts to attend university in Gwadar. University administrators described the hostel’s opening as a landmark achievement that will ease accommodation pressures for out-of-town students and strengthen academic support systems for local learners as well.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Registrar Daulat Khan, Dean of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Jan Mohammad, Controller of Examinations Dr. Raheem Mehr, Principal Gwadar College Naseer Ahmed, and other officials.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the provincial government—particularly Chief Minister Bugti—for prioritizing student welfare. He noted that facilities like the girls’ hostel contribute significantly to the university’s development and to the academic progress of female scholars.

MPA Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch lauded the initiative, stating that meaningful expansion of women’s education requires not only academic opportunities but also proper infrastructure. “This hostel will provide comfort, confidence, and improved learning conditions for the students who reside here,” he added.
