Monsoon Kills 182, Leaves 323 Injured in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The death toll from ongoing monsoon rains in Pakistan has surged to over 180, with two more people reported dead in various parts of the country over the past 24 hours, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
As per NDMA, the recent fatalities were caused by flash floods in Upper Kohistan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moreover, one person was injured in Bakkar district of Punjab in roof collapse incident. Since the onset of the monsoon (from July 1 to August 16), a total of 182 people have died and 323 others have been wounded in rain-related incidents nationwide. Notably, children comprise a significant portion of the casualties, with 94 deaths and 129 injuries.
Punjab province is the hardest hit, reporting 65 deaths and 174 injuries. KP follows closely with 64 deaths and 111 injuries. Sindh province has reported 31 deaths and 13 injuries. The remaining casualties occurred in other parts of the country.
In addition to the human toll, the monsoon rains have caused extensive property damage. Since July, 22,73 houses have been damaged, with 732 of them completely destroyed. The NDMA’s statistics also show the loss of 352 livestock.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted more rain in the next 24 hours, raising concerns of further devastation.
