CDWP Approves Development Projects Worth Rs 259.68 Billion

ISLAMABAD: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), chaired by Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, approved 16 development projects worth Rs 259.68 billion. Of these, 9 projects valued at Rs 27.40 billion received CDWP approval, while 7 projects worth Rs 232.28 billion were recommended to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Key initiatives include education reforms under the "Uraan Pakistan" initiative, establishment of Danish Schools in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir, and the Rs 14 billion "Prime Minister’s Pakistan Fund for Education." In higher education, the "Pak-USAID Merit and Need-Based Scholarships Program" was also approved.
The CDWP approved the establishment of the Arshad Nadeem/Shahbaz Sharif High-Performance Sports Academy in Islamabad to nurture elite athletes.
Major infrastructure projects include the Faisalabad Eastern Wastewater Treatment Plant, the dualization of Rawalpindi-Kahuta Road, and operationalization of the Green Line BRTS in Karachi. Energy and governance initiatives such as transmission network upgrades in Islamabad and the Sindh PPP project were referred to ECNEC for final approval.
Minister Ahsan Iqbal emphasized education, sports development, and public-private partnerships as central to Pakistan’s progress, calling for swift implementation and monitoring of all approved projects.
