IAEA Director General Meets Prime Minister Sharif

ISLAMABAD:  The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, met with Pakistan’s prime minister at the Prime Minister House on Monday to discuss cooperation in nuclear technology and its peaceful applications. 

The prime minister praised the IAEA’s role in promoting nuclear energy as a solution to climate change and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding its use of nuclear technology for sustainable development. He highlighted progress in areas such as cancer treatment, agriculture, food preservation, water management, and industry, with the IAEA’s support playing a key role. 

“Pakistan, as a founding member of the IAEA, values its decades-long partnership with the agency,” the prime minister said, emphasizing the country’s dedication to peaceful nuclear applications that contribute to socio-economic growth. 

Grossi acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions to the peaceful use of nuclear technology and commended its advancements in energy, healthcare, and agriculture. He assured the agency’s continued collaboration with Pakistan to support its development goals. 

Pakistan’s nuclear program has long been a part of its strategy to address energy shortages and advance medical and agricultural innovations. The country has worked closely with the IAEA since the agency’s inception, focusing on peaceful nuclear applications while maintaining international standards of safety and security.
